W5: "The Secret Door in My School Leads to..."

One afternoon, I was wandering around the quiet hallways of my school, I stumbled upon an old wooden double door that was painted deep blue. It was in the school garden. Twisted tree roots were carved into its surface, a faint golden light seeped from the small gap between the doors. Strangely, no one else seemed to notice it, as if it had been hidden in plain sight.

I was surprised and curious. Then, I slowly pushed the doors open. I expected that it was a usual storage room that stored the tools of gardening but I found myself stepping into a different world—a school, but not my school. I could see that the hallways were dimly lit with lanterns and the students wore old-fashioned uniforms from a time long past, in the 1990s. I could smell the air full of aged paper and ink. The walls were also lined with wooden bookshelves that were filled with ancient scrolls.

I started to walk around the school, then I met a girl named Emma, who looked surprised to see me. “You don’t belong here,” she said cautiously. Soon, I realised that this school existed in a parallel past and was trapped in a loop of time. The students had been stuck here for decades, they were unable to move forward. Some of them had given up, while others were still searching for a way to escape.

Then, Emma asked for my help. She told me that If I could find the source of the time loop, perhaps I could break it. Afterwards she led me to the headmaster’s office. I saw an ancient clock standing, the clock was frozen in place, it was not working. “This clock controls time here,” she said. If the clock restarted, it might allow the school to move forward and give freedom to everyone. On the other hand, there was a risk, if the clock was destroyed, the door that I pushed might vanish forever.

After hearing what Emma said, I hesitated. I ask myself, should I interfere with a world that was not mine? Thinking for a moment, I knew I had to try because I saw the eagerness in the students' eyes. By taking a deep breath, I wound the clock’s gears. It clicked once, then twice. The lanterns flickered, the ground trembled and suddenly, everything faded into blinding light.

When I opened my eyes, I was back in my school’s garden, standing in front of the mysterious blue door. After a few seconds, it was just a plain wall. The door had vanished. I touched it, but there was nothing there. The secret world was gone, and I didn’t have a chance to return.

I never spoke of it to anyone, but sometimes I wonder—did I really help those students, or I just erased their world forever?

But I believe that I have made the right choice. Some doors are really meant to stay closed.
