W4: "An Alien Has Landed in My Backyard ?"
I was just ready to go back to my room, I never expected that this would become a night I would never forget.
It was nearly midnight when I first heard the noise—a strange “boop-boop” sound, it was like a squeaky toy being squeezed repeatedly. At first, I thought it was my brother playing with his game again, but when I went to my brother's room, he was wearing a headset and playing his game. I heard it once again, the sound was coming from outside. I was curious, so I decided to grab my flashlight and stepped into my backyard.
I saw a chubby, bright green alien. I could not believe it was real, I have watched a lot of movies, but I could not believe it happened in my life. It was standing in the middle of my yard, a chubby, bright green alien—with round googly eyes, a wide goofy smile, and stubby arms stretched out like it was asking for a hug. It looked exactly like something you can find in the toy section at IKEA, except this one was moving and waving at me.
For a second, I still thought I was dreaming. At the moment, the alien squeaked again, it was louder this time. It was scared and shivering, it looked more like a lost plush toy than an actual extraterrestrial. Its soft green fur was covered in dirt and grass stains, and one of its little antennae was bent sideways.
“Hmm… hello…?” I said, and stepped closer to it. The alien wiggled its arms excitedly and made a sound like “Ehheho?!” It didn’t speak my language, I think maybe it was trying to tell me its name.
I held out my hand to it, and I was surprise, the alien grabbed it. Its soft plush fingers were not slimy or scaly; it was warm and fuzzy. It feels like hugging a living pillow. But despite its cuteness, I could feel that it was frightened and lost.
Communication was a problem between us. The alien could not talk, and I definitely could not understand its alien language. So, I took out a notebook and started drawing. I drew my house, me, and the alien standing together. The alien clapped its hands and grabbed the pencil to draw. It drew a round flying saucer with three legs. It was trying to tell me the saucer was not just a spaceship, it was the alien’s little home, flying from star to star.
Over the next few days, I secretly took care of the alien. I hide it in my closet during the day. It loved bouncing on my bed and playing with my socks, even trying to wear them as hats. It refused to eat regular food. The alien showed me his silly tricks like turning my lamp to different colors by hugging it, sticking to walls and even inflating itself like a balloon when it got scared.
But after a week, my parents started hearing weird noises, and my brother swore he saw “a mutant plushie with alien powers.” They began to suspect what was going on. The worst was I saw news reports reporting that something had crashed in the nearby park. Scientists were investigating and the government warned everyone to report anything unusual.
That night, the alien sat on my bed, looking sad. It knew it could not stay hidden forever. I was thinking of turning it in or helping it get back to its home. When I saw its googly eyes full of worry, I decided to help it get back. My heart could not bear to turn him over to the government and scientists because I had no idea what they would do to him.
So, we built a tiny repair device by using some duct tape, an old umbrella, and a remote-controlled car for its damaged spaceship. I bring the alien back to the park, where its saucer lay half-buried under broken branches. It hugged me tightly, I could hardly catch my breath. Before I could even say goodbye, it climbed aboard, the saucer’s lights flickered, with a cheerful honk, the ship wobbled into the sky like a UFO driven by a toddler.
The alien was gone, but my life was not the same after that.
Sometimes at night, I hear faint squeaks from the sky, and I would think that the alien was bouncing across the stars, probably still wearing my sock as a hat.
